MICE begins its 11th. edition with a tribute to Susi Sánchez and Agustí Villaronga

The Xirivellense actress receives the appreciation of her people, in a tribute where the figure of the Balearic filmmaker was also remembered, with the screening of her posthumous work ‘Loli Tormenta’, starring Susi Sánchez.

The Mostra Internacional de Cinema Educatiu kicks off the programming of this 11th edition. And it does so with a very emotional event dedicated to Susi Sánchez, and celebrated precisely in the town of Xirivella, the town where the Valencian actress was born. The Plaza de la Concordia in this municipality of l’Horta was filled to honor the artistic career of an actress who received, from the hands of the mayor of the municipality, Paqui Bartual, and the director of the festival, Josep Arbiol, a well-deserved recognition.

“For me it is very exciting to be here. I have to greatly thank the Xirivella City Council and the MICE for organizing something like this,” the actress stated excitedly, adding that “it is also moving to share this tribute with Agustí Villaronga, who was my last director and my last teacher.”

And Agustí Villaronga was the other big name of Sunday afternoon. The filmmaker, who died in January, was already the protagonist of the 6th edition of MICE and the festival wanted to remember him with a nice tribute to his career and the delivery of a gift to the director’s nephew . Furthermore, at the end of the event, the film ‘Loli Tormenta’, the latest film by the Balearic filmmaker, and also the latest work to date by the actress Susi Sánchez, was screened.

Another personality from the world of cinema invited by MICE to this exciting tribute was the actor Fernando Esteso, a member of the cast of the film ‘Loli Tormenta’, in addition to having participated in another work by Agustí Villaronga such as ‘Incerta Glòria’. That is why his words were so significant: “Villaronga was a magnificent person, a man with an incredible story. It was very difficult to talk about him in the days after he left, but today, here, it is a joy for me to do so.”

For his part, Josep Arbiol, director of the festival, recalled the importance of bringing cinema and culture to the streets and towns, in addition to educating young and old through audiovisuals. “MICE continues to consolidate, and being able to hold this type of event, with personalities of this level, shows that good work is being done, both by the festival and also by the different city councils that participate annually.”

Finally, the mayor of the municipality, Paqui Bartual, also thanked the Mostra Internacional de Cinema Educatiu “for having chosen Xirivella as the starting point for this festival, which has already become a benchmark for culture and education in the Valencian Community” .
